Where do I begin?
I have never fully loved myself, or my body to the extent that I should. Starting at a very young age, maybe about 7 or 8, I began to look at myself with disdain.
When I looked in the mirror, what I saw would grow to disappoint me more and more over the years.
Growing up, we moved around a lot; saying goodbye to places and faces became a norm for me, and with that, a sense of loss and the inability to control my circumstances would manifest.
At the young age of 12, thoughts of distorted self-image, and harm began.. and a year later, I developed an eating disorder. My struggle with Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa would continue for the next 13 years.
I can’t begin to explain the level of “trapped” I felt inside of my own body, and mind.
Today, I would consider myself recovered from my eating disorder for two years now. I have undergone chronic pain, a diagnosis of endometriosis and adenomyosis, as well as a full hysterectomy in the two years I have recovered, which added to the battle with my body that I experience.
However, today I have 2 beautiful little girls to set an example for; to teach that the body we are in is capable of so much magic and wonder beyond our wildest imaginations….I am on a path I never imagined possible, as I am in nursing school to become an RN, working primarily with those who struggle with eating disorders, and will be starting my first job in the field as an Eating Disorder Tech this coming June, and a Registered Nurse in December.
Having a boudoir shoot is something I have always dreamed of doing, but never believed I was worthy of.
My experience with this shoot was one to remember, and what I consider to be a turning point in the way I see myself and all that I am capable of when self-love is present. I wear my scars, flaws, and smile proudly, and no longer hold the disdain for my body that I did for so long.
I am so incredibly grateful for the time, dedication, and kind words from my shoot with Sugar & Spice, and the team that allowed the opportunity for such amazing photos to be produced.
Thank you all, this experience has changed so much for me. More than I could ever put into words.
